On 5 March 2015, Dr Fiona Kelly attended a Stakeholder meeting for Victoria’s Same Sex Adoption Review. In attendance was the government-appointed reviewer, Eamonn Moran PM QC, as well as representatives from the office of Martin Foley MP, Minister for Equality. Stakeholders included Berry Street, VCOSS, the Rainbow Families Council, the Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (VGLRL), and the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission. The Same Sex Adoption Review is designed to investigate the “how” of same-sex adoption reform, a key election commitment of the Andrews Labor government. The review will consider how to amend the Adoption Act 1984 (Vic) and related laws so that same sex couples are able to adopt. Dr Kelly will use her family law expertise to assist the Rainbow Families Association and VGLRL with their submissions. The review closes on 23 March. Further information can be found at the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
