The La Trobe Law School Vis Moot Team landed in Vienna in late March for the 22nd Vis Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Prior to the official opening of the competition the team practised with several accomplished mooters from other universities from around the world. These included the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, the National University of India, the University of Zurich, and the University of Denver.
The Moot was officially opened on Friday 27 March, with 299 teams and several jokes about arbitration crammed into the Vienna Konzerthaus. The general rounds of the competition kicked off on Saturday 28 March, with La Trobe competing against the Monterrey Institute of Technology, Santa Fe. The first moot was held at the palatial Vienna offices of Baker & McKenzie.
The team participated in two further moots, receiving positive feedback from esteemed international arbitrators. The mooting experience has been rewarding and invaluable. The team are looking forward to the rest of the competition.
The Law and Justice blog will follow the Vis Moot Team as they progress through international competitions in April.
