Please join us for our upcoming ADR Professional Development Workshop: “Mediation Advocacy and Intercultural/International Mediations”. The Workshop will be presented by Professor Hal Abramson, a full-time faculty member at Touro Law Center, New York, where he teaches, trains, and writes on negotiation, mediation, mediation advocacy, and resolving intercultural disputes.
Professor Abramson will speak on two key topics relevant to any Lawyer or Mediator:
Based on his well-known treatise on Mediation Representation, Professor Abramson will present an approach to representing clients in mediations that can maximize the potential benefits for your client in the mediation process. The presentation also will offer insights for Mediators into on how to work effectively with Attorneys in the mediation process.
Professor Abramson will discuss one of the key distinguishing features of international mediations – how to manage cultural differences as they arise in the mediation process. Based on his work as co-chair of the IMI Task Force that designed the first intercultural standards for certifying mediators, he will examine some of the intercultural issues that can arise during the course of the mediation, including how to communicate cross-culturally and when is a yes really a no.
