Dr Ridwanul Hoque is a visiting scholar at La Trobe Law School in 2016. Originally from the Law School of the University of Dhaka Bangladesh, Dr Hoque has been recently interviewed in the German Monthly E-Paper Development and Cooperation (Issue: May 2016).
The piece entitled “A situation of bonded labour“, explores the context of workers migrating out of Bangladesh and the problems they face when seeking employment in other countries. Dr Hoque asserts that these people are often victims of their situation because they are not afforded fair working conditions and generally face exploitation.
Dr Hoque also touches on the plight of “irregular migrants”. He indicates that by using this term attention can be drawn to the fact that people who are in this situation are usually the victims of crime rather than the perpetrators.
